Working with found images, this small series aims to investigate the nature of self-image and how we present ourselves to the world. ID and passport photos aside and before the age of Selfies, the photo booth provided an opportunity to play around with our image. Here we can create a memento, fix a moment in time, construct a little story that jogs the memory when we come across the small square of paper maybe many years after the fact.

Each painting is inspired by a vintage photograph usually found online, upon which I superimpose an imagined back story or identity. The image is then further translated when it is reconstructed as a painting. Think of it as an analogue filter through the eyes of the artist, rather than a digital program on a smart phone.
